// To those of you elated that Congress has finally made a deal regarding the budget://
Don’t be.
Those of you that are even moderately liberal will have something to say regarding the horrific cuts to welfare programs that have arisen from this deal with the devil. In fact, the chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Rep. Emmanuel Cleaver, went so far as to call it “a sugar-coated Satan sandwich.”
A representative from Arizona puts my opinion in words more eloquent than my own:
“This deal trades peoples’ livelihoods for the votes of a few unappeasable right-wing radicals, and I will not support it,” said Rep. Raul Grijalva of Arizona. “The very wealthy will continue to receive taxpayer handouts, and corporations will keep their expensive federal giveaways. Meanwhile, millions of families unfairly lose more in this deal than they have already lost. I will not be a part of it.”
The so-called leaders of our Congress may claim to be heroes, saving the country from a crippling default, but remember who it was that put us in that situation in the first place. When election season rolls around keep in mind that these are the people making it more difficult for you to go to school. These are the people making it more difficult for your grandparents to get decent healthcare. These are the people who use the desperate and poor of this country as sacrificial offerings to their corporate idols.
This is our country too, let’s take it back before it’s too late. Action, not apathy!
